• Wills and other transfers of assets. A will directs how you want your property distributed after your death and appoints the person who will manage your estate. But property can also be passed outside of a will, including through a trust or a joint tenancy. Each of these options has its pros and cons and the right choice for you depends on your wishes and your individual situation. A good estate plan takes all of these factors into account and uses the options best for you.
• Planning for disability. We offer disability planning as part of an estate plan or as a service by itself. For most of us, there will probably come a time when we are unable to communicate choices about our health care or manage our own finances. A good disability plan includes provisions for managing finances during disability as well as provisions for making necessary health care decisions.
• End of life planning. Planning for disability can also include, in addition to designating the person who will make health care decisions for you in the event you are unable to do so yourself, proving direction to that person. Although you cannot anticipate every possibility, you can provide general guidelines about the sort of care you wish to receive and, perhaps even more importantly, the sort of care you do not wish to receive.
