• What does the new domestic partnership law provide for couples in a same-sex relationship? In April 2007, Washington enacted a law that afforded very little rights to same-sex couples. However, in March 2008, this law was expanded to provide 170 more rights to same-sex couples that are currently afforded to married heterosexual couples. Under the new domestic partnership law, registered same-sex couples have the same rights pertaining to community property division, estate planning and probate, child custody and parenting issues, and much more.
